Big Book Summer Challenge 2021

Once again I'm joining other readers who plan to read some weighty tomes over the summer. The challenge begins at the end of May and continues through to the Labour Day weekend. The only rule is that the book has to be at least 400 pages. You can read as many or as few books as you want. You can even get through them as audiobooks!

You can find out more about this challenge at Sue Jackson's blog, Book By Book.

I collect possible titles for this challenge throughout the year. Sometimes I even read them before the challenge begins. I have been known to add a book as the summer progresses. My goal is always to just read as many books from the list as I can.

Let the big book reading begin! (I cheated and starting reading one of mine a day early.)

Testament of Youth Vera Brittain, 688 pp

The Body: A Guide for Occupants Bill Bryson, 450 pp

  1. That's a hefty list of hefty books! I have been meaning to read Testament of Youth for years--hope you get to it so I can read your review and finally be inspired to start it. I loved Warmth of Other Suns, which I read earlier this year. A five-star book for sure. The Overstory is also outstanding, as is The Body by Bill Bryson--I read everything he writes, and as always, this was utterly fascinating.

Best wishes for a successful challenge and read on!

  2. What a great set of books! I'm participating in the challenge as well this year, and I'm excited! I've heard a lot of praise for The Warmth of Other Suns and The Overstory—I actually have a family member who enjoyed both. I'm also curious to hear your thoughts on In the Wild Light. Thanks for the great post, and good luck with the challenge!

  3. Welcome to another Big Book Summer, Cheriee!! So glad you're joining in the fun again - and that you look forward to it all year (me, too!).

Wow, what a great list of Big Books to choose from! Cutting for Stone and Becoming (especially on audio) were both excellent. My son LOVES Patrick Rothfuss. Amnd Overstory is on MY list for this summer, too!

    Enjoy!
