STUFFED MICE

It all began with my granddaughter showing me a pattern for stuffed mice and asking me if I could make her some.

I responded that of course I could. Then I purchased the pattern and got carried away. The next thing I knew I was adapting the pattern, creating new ones, knitting them sweaters and socks, making shoes, and designing ball gowns - and all for these six inch creatures.

You can purchase the pattern for making your own mice and clothes here. Her mice are much lovelier than mine. I tried adding the pink noses, but found it to be a pain. It could be because my mice are made from flannelette instead of plain cotton or linen.

Each of my grandkids has their own mouse with three outfits.

These are the mice I finished before Christmas, 2023.

Someone ordered a couple of mice from me, so I thought I should see if I could make shoes to go along with the outfits she wanted. What I love about the shoes is that they enable the to mice to stand up.

This velveteen coat was a serious challenge. I made it 4 times before I came up with one I was happy with.

It's been a steep learning curve, but now that I have the basics under my belt, I'm contemplating western boots. Of course, if I make western boots, I'll have to make hats and if I make hats, I'll have to make shirts....

In the meantime, my grandkids now have shoes for their little creatures. Now the granddaughter who got me started wants to know if I can make pjs and slippers...

I asked my husband, who is a gifted photographer, to take a picture before I deliver the mice I made to order. The next thing I knew, we were having a photo shoot.

All the tops and dresses are reversible.

I really didn't expect stuffed mice to take up this much of my life, but here I am.

  1. Wow they are amazing! I’m always so impressed with your dedication to family and especially your grand kids. Also everything you believe in and love doing! It’s inspiring Cheriee. I often think to myself what would Cheriee do in this situation. When I do I find myself handling life in better ways!

    1. Wow Isaac! Thanks for your very kind words. We all learn from our elders I think - both what to do, and what not to do! I had (and still have) a lot of people I look up to.

  4. Oh, Cheriee, these are fabulous! I laughed when your "trail" led from boots to shirts to hats! Of course, don't forget the tiny pearl buttons! Maybe it's time for an Etsy shop, the Mouse House! Good for you for working things out and being so creative!

    1. Let me know if you need any help. We can even zoom. I used iron on interfacing on the fabric before cutting out my mice. I sewed them on my machine with very small stitches so that the seams would be stronger. I used tweezers for helping turn the pieces inside out, and for getting batting into the small sections. It takes me close to a day just to stuff one mouse.
