These days I’m connecting up with Kidlitosphere Central for Poetry Friday. Today’s host is Brenda Davis Harsham at Friendly Fairy Tales.
My partner and I have been married for over 42 years. My favourite love poem that fits for us now is Decade by Amy Lowell. Here is my attempt to capture a moment in the ease and contentment of our relationship these days.
love poem
together
decades now
our bodies slip
perfectly
comfortably
into place
back and front
fitting
into each other
softly padded
where bones
once poked
conjoined
our world
aligns itself
mind and muscle
surrender
descend
into
stillness
and sleep
A wonderful love poem, love that 'mind and muscle'/'stillness and sleep'.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda. Things change a lot over the years.
DeleteThis is a beautiful, seductive expression of love that has grown and become satisfyingly comfortable.
ReplyDeleteThank you Glenda. Satisfying is a good word for it.
Delete42 years is a beautiful, wonderful achievement, and your poem captures that mellowing and contentment to perfection.
ReplyDeleteSo much happens in 42 years that wisdom takes over and two comfortably fit into one another. Lovely poem.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely place to be, comfortable and just right.
ReplyDeleteI felt your ease and contentment in your choice of words: slip, softly, surrender, stillness, sleep. Congratulations on 42 years.
ReplyDeleteI like your slow descent into "sleep," lovely, thanks!
ReplyDeleteHooray for 42 years and a love that still fits perfectly!
