As a clinical psychologist and a teacher educator, I am constantly on the lookout for titles that would capture the authenticity of the mental illness experience, but as you have pointed out, they are few and far between. I have Cinder and the other books in the series waiting for me to get to it. I loved The Witch's Boy too when I read it - loved the beauty of the language and the just-right amount of creepiness.GatheringBookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04477710897574769648noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2599471237636371761.post-75718429396252664912015-09-01T07:16:20.320-07:002015-09-01T07:16:20.320-07:00I am enjoying Beholding Bee (despite her having to...I am enjoying Beholding Bee (despite her having to deal with loss over and over) She is quite the spunky character. I liked West of the Moon much better than Heart of a Samurai, but I just don't seem to connect with her writing. I admire it, but I don't really care about what happens. I recommend Cinder all the time, because it's such a good read for a wide variety of young teens! I just wish the novel had shown them that they don't have to. And yes it is exciting and stressful and I didn't mention that we are in the midst of renovations through all this. I hope your week goes smoothly, having the first week of school & ending with a wedding sounds rather amazing, makes me remember my son getting married on Memorial Day, a week before school was out! What an exciting time, but a little stressful. As for Nest, I did like it, wondered who of my student might read it for their own comfort. I do disagree and think there are still kids out there who think they have to take care of themselves and not ask for help; they keep secrets. So I wonder if the book will help them at least find a friend. It was a tough book to read, I agree with that. Thanks for your honest review, & have a wonderful week.Linda Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14983144542632353870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2599471237636371761.post-66720152423202869002015-08-31T03:25:46.194-07:002015-08-31T03:25:46.194-07:00"I've just about had it with children'..."I've just about had it with children's books where a character has to deal with the death of a significant person in his/her life." Yes, yes, yes!!! Nest was just beyond sad. The Meaning of Maggie painted a much more realistic picture. I'm glad that you mentioned your background-- some librarians want to hand children books like this to "help them through things" and that seems like a REALLY bad idea in this case!Ms. Yinglinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17805324364289597178noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2599471237636371761.post-34343526364433317752015-08-31T02:32:51.261-07:002015-08-31T02:32:51.261-07:00Great list!
