Poetry Fridays: Love Poem

May 4, 2018

These days I’m connecting up with Kidlitosphere Central for Poetry Friday. Today’s host is Brenda Davis Harsham at Friendly Fairy Tales.

My partner and I have been married for over 42 years. My favourite love poem that fits for us now is Decade by Amy Lowell. Here is my attempt to capture a moment in the ease and contentment of our relationship these days.

love poem

together
decades now
our bodies slip
perfectly
comfortably
into place
back and front
fitting
into each other
softly padded
where bones
once poked
conjoined
our world
aligns itself
mind and muscle
surrender
descend
into
stillness
and sleep

  4. So much happens in 42 years that wisdom takes over and two comfortably fit into one another. Lovely poem.
